What is UGC for Hotels?
You’ve probably seen all those fancy, luxury hotels and resorts that people like to post on social media and wondered how they are able to stay there?!! Aren’t those expensive???
Well, I'm gonna let you in on the secret. It's all about User-Generated Content (UGC) for hotels and how travel influencers are collaborating with hotels to create those pictures and videos. Also known as “travel content”, they also tend to be on the luxurious side. 😉
UGC for hotels? Huh? What?!
First things first, let's define what UGC for hotels is. It's when a person, known as a travel influencer or travel creator, takes pictures and videos of a hotel's property (think the room, common areas like pool and restaurant etc). I call these type of UGC as “Guest-Generated Content” (GGC) because the person creating those content is a guest staying at that particular hotel. Travel influencers with lots of followers often share these on their social media. Travel bloggers would write a whole blog post about their stay. Other creators would just create these content and hand them over to the hotel. The hotel marketing team can then use these content to promote the hotel on their social media and ads. And in return, the travel influencer gets a complimentary, discounted or upgraded stay at the hotel and/or other perks.
Why Hotels Prefer UGC for Hotels over Traditional Advertising Agency
But why do hotels prefer UGC for hotels over traditional advertising agency? Well, it's actually very simple really. UGC is highly cost-effective for hotels. Instead of spending a ton of money on an ad agency, hotels can collaborate with travel influencers to create authentic and relatable content. Plus, it's more trustworthy and real than traditional corporate-style ads. And it costs less. Like way, wayyyy less. Think how much a room costs compared to thousands of dollars that an ad agency typically charge? My point exactly!
